The Thai New Year, Songkran, is celebrated every year between 13th and 15th April. Besides the usual festive spirit and water festivals, there is a week of events and celebration at the Laem Sing Wat. These include night markets, dancing and singing shows, games ect.
A great time of year to visit Laem Sing.
Songkran falls in the hottest time of the year in Thailand, at the end of the dry season.
The most obvious celebration of Songkran is the water festivals, where passers by are drenched in water and generaly water is thrown about by just about everyone. Great fun!
The throwing water part was originaly a way to pay respect to people, by pouring a small amount of lustral water on other people’s hands as a sign of respect. This has evolved into a general water festival where water is thrown around for fun and to relieve the heat. This includes water fights and splashing water on passing vehicles, a hallmark of Songkran as tourists know.
