Located about 5 kilometres from the National Park Office. A trip to the Holy Mountain in Khao Khitchakut National Park is an amazing trip.
Open during the dry season from around mid Januaray. Many places on the mountain pertain to Buddhist mythologies. The most important is the Buddha’s footprint, which is highly revered by Thai people. Many people come here to pay homage and make merit by carrying supplies to the shrines.
Before you begin the asscent of Yot Khao Phrabat you have the option to ride the first two stages in 4 wheel drive 'taxis'. This would be advisable for all except the most adventorous, or those wishing to make merit by carrying supplies!
The 4 wheel drives are an experience in themselves as you weave your way up an increadibly steep roadway carved into the mountain side.
Once you reach the top of the roadway there are 13 or 14 unique shrines to visit as you climb the mountain by a well worn pathway. The footprint of Buddha, often covered in goldleaf, is the most revered. As you approach the shrine the entire landscape and atmosphere is breathtaking.
There is a 2 month window from mid January when the mountain road is passable by 4 wheel drive. If you are in Laem Sing at this time of year ask at your accomodation (or hotel siri) about visiting Khao Khitchakut.
