Archaeological site - Old Ship Remains - Chanthaburi ThailandOld Ship Remains
Located at Ban Samet Ngam about 8 kilometers to the southwest of Chanthaburi town.

The King Taksin the Great shipyard Chanthaburi. An archaeological site where remains of many old vessels have been found.

The vicinity is also dotted with a number of square-shaped basins along the shore indicating they might have been a boat -building site.

It is believed that the forces of King Taksin constructed their war vessels around here in preparation to liberating Ayutthaya after its fall in 1767.

There is not a great deal to be seen although the drive through the Chanthaburi countryside is very pleasant. The shipyard is off the beaten track and can be a litle difficult to find.
