Guide to Chanthaburi Town The City Pillar and Taksin Park are among a handful of shrines & tourist attractions in Chanthaburi Town itself. The park makes for a nice walk as the lakes have a cooling effect. You will also find that this is the main area for markets, festivals, and events during the evening. In the city there are also the usual markets and shops to be explored. There is a large Tesco Lotus for food & everyday items (which is better value than Robinsons - also in the town).
The surrounding countryside is some of the nicest, and most fertile, in Thailand but can be hard to reach without your own transport.
The best nightlife is near the park. There is the Diamond Pub, a large Thai Style nightclub with live performances after 10pm. It gets rammed and is a good fun place. Down the road, heading back towards town from Diamond theres a cool little bar with no name which is air con inside and has a nice garden for smokers.
The Full Moon Disco Pub is a Club type place open until 2am.
There is The Zeed Club, next to the Full Moon Disco Pub, where you can also play pool. They usualy have a bit of live music - a guy singing with a guitar or something. Can eat well here and reasonably priced.
Chanthaburi also has some nice little corners such as Chanthorn Pochana Restaurant near the Kasemsarn Hotel, and the River Guest House. |
