Lucious Laemsing - The undiscovered gem of the East - Chanthaburi ThailandThe undiscovered gem of the East

Unspoilt and tranquil, the destination to visit.

Lucious Laem sing
We are a rather large family who like to visit Laem sing and all of its beauties.
We stumbled across this beautiful village almost accidentally back in 2006 whilst on an Asian tour.
Travelling with 9 children we had several requirements, with safety being the most predominant.

Initially we had planned to stay for a couple of days to enable us to swim with the dolphins in the nearby Oasis Seaworld(Just a couple of Kms away from the village)
We had enjoyed ourselves so much that we spent the remainder of our trip at the Siri Hotel.

Although the facilities there could be classed as fairly basic, the hotel was always spotlessly clean and relatively bug free. Not only was the hotel and chalets very well kept the hospitality and friendship offered by the entire staff was of a 5* standard.
Owned by Mr Loui and Managed by Lung the hotel has something extremely special to offer families and travellers alike.
Very few people here speak and English (Phrase book is a bonus) however universal hand signs are not only completely acceptable they are used readily by both visitors and locals alike.

Whilst you may be forgiven for thinking that there isn't much to do in such a small and sleepy village you would be completely wrong.

Within the locality it is possible to rent/ hire bikes and pickups, the staff can just about accommodate any needs and requirements that you and your famiy may have.
During our stays we were able to rent boats(At very reasonable rates) always catching more than we could eat which was duly cooked within the hotel grounds
We were able to have Karaoke evenings barbecues and fantastic days out. If you would like a fishing trip, just ask and someone will be quite happy to take you out, if you want to snorkel and take in the aquatic beauties just ask, and someone will accommodate.
Due to its location it is a firm favourite for Cambodia border runs and being only 20 kms from Chanthaburi(The city of Gems) almost evrything you would care to need is only a bike ride away.
Buses do run from Bangkok to the city centre (About a 3 hour run) approx 250 baht where a short songthaew ride will bring you to our definition of paradise.
You could even take a songthaew to Namtok Pliu (A lovely waterfall and national park)
The beauties of this undiscovered paradise are many, the beautiful beaches and clean seas, a wonderful little fishing port, the kindness of the locals and the tranquility of it all.

You can visit many wats near here including the most lovely Wat Kow sukim (A technology wat) revered by the Thai people where a small railway will lift you up high into the hills allowing you access to the temple and all of its surrounding beauties and treasures.
There are several other wats nearby many of which are only too pleased to allow visitors to browse (Respectfully of course). Nearby there is a local wat which seems to be the centre point of many things in the village.
We were very fortunate to be included in the Kings 80th Birthday celebrations on our last trip. We were asked to attend the temple and to hand out our Balloon models to some of the local children.
We later gathered with the locals on the village green to show our respect to the King by lighting special candles and participationg in the singing of the National anthem.

The children in our party thoroughly enjoyed the childrens day celebrations and were encouraged to participate with the rest of the children of the village.

If you should be so fortunate as to visit Laemsing you are likely to encounter the true traddional Thai hospitality, which currently is unspoilt by Full moon parties and the like. If it is a kicking nightlife you are looking for then to be honest you are unlikely to find it there.
Internet is available (Though not the highest speed)local nightmarkets are held 3 times a week where you can experiment with your spoken Thai, and where many children will try their English out on you too.
You can take a boat or walk over the new bridge to Monkey Island where a colony of small monkeys exist and who have a real liking for Crisps, (Chilli ones are the best!!)
Or You can take a walk along the miles of sand stopping to eat at one of the many small cafes and restaraunts along the beach. We do have our favourites but it would be unfair to name one and not the many others.

Much of the food served in the village is definately Thai, there are a couple of cafes that serve european and western food. James and Pat at the Marine cafe can rustle up wonderful full english breakfasts at extremely reasonable prices.

There is alternative accomodation available in the village but the website will give you further details and information.

Many of the local Thai people know all of the children, their names and what they like to eat.
It is truly an undiscovered gem.
We cant wait to get back there.
Are there any downsides to Laemsing?, well, we have yet to find any.
